Promotion/Relegation latest
Season 2008 is over! Another one bites the dust!
Er, check that, another one bites the mud!
Congratulations to all who achieved their Promotion aims & commiserations to all who failed to avoid relegation.
Division 1
Congleton did their best to spoil Oakmere's party with an 8-wicket win at Malpas, but Oakmere held their nerve to beat Ashley by the same margin and gain
promotion to the County League for the first time. Champions Brooklands underlined their class with the 15th win of their unbeaten League campaign at
Davenham, winning the Division by 73 points. Congratulations to Brooklands & Oakmere on their elevation!
At the bottom, both Runcorn and Trafford MV lost, but the 5 points Trafford gained in bowling out neighbours Ashton-on-Mersey proved decisive, as Runcorn
are relegated by just two points, joining Cholmondeley in Div 2 next year.
Division 2
The top three teams, Northwich, Barrow and Weaverham all gained strong 25-point wins, leaving the points differences unchanged from last week. Thus
Northwich are promoted as Champions for the second successive season with Barrow just one point behind also promoted to Div 1.
At the bottom, Bowdon Vale continued their good late-season form with a 25-point win over Alderley Park to escape relegation as Chester County officers
lost to Northwich & Wilmslow lost at Weaverham, leaving both losers relegated to Division 3.
Division 3
At the top of Div 3, visitors Kingsley had the better of the draw at Stockport, but the home team picked up enough points to clinch the title by 4 from Kingsley. Special
congrats to Stockport & Kingsley on winning promotion in their first season in the Meller Braggins Cheshire Cricket League.
At the bottom, Castrol batted first but were unable to score enough runs to prevent a Wirral win, and Castrol are Relegated to the Alliance. They will be joined by Chelford
who could only pick up two points at Bunbury, while fellow-candidates Lindow had a nail-biting finish at Pott Shrigley finishing two runs behind with two wickets left. The 8
points they gained for their efforts doomed Chelford by just 3 points. Wistaston Village secured their own survival by beating Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge.
Our commiserations to Castrol & Chelford, come back soon!
Division A
In Division A, there were no slip-ups by either Congleton or Northwich as both gained 25-point wins to finish as Champions & Runners-up respectively.
At the foot of the table, the tangle is finally resolved! Cholmondeley are definitely Relegated after losing to Northwich, and they will be joined in Div B next year
by Davenham whose hopes of survival were dashed when their match at Brooklands was Abandoned.
Division B
Both Stretton & Over Peover strove to gain the second promotion spot with 25-point wins, Stretton winning at Alderley Park and Over Peover beating new Champions Barnton.
These results maintained Stretton's 5-point advantage and they are promoted along with Barnton to Div A next year.
Alderley Park's loss along with Barrow's 25-point win over Malpas means that Alderley Park will join Malpas in Div C.
Division C
At the top of Div C, Champions Stockport had the worse of the draw against Kingsley & the latter moved into 2nd place pending the result of Prestbury's match at Castrol.
However, Prestbury gained a 25 point win at Castrol and they will be promoted rather than Kingsley.
County League Div 2
With the final week results now in, joining Winnington Park in our League next year will be Hale Barns who knew their fate before they took the field against Irby, when Bredbury St Marks'
final match was cancelled due to a waterlogged ground.
Cheshire Alliance Div 1
A great finish at the top of the Alliance Div 1, with all three top teams winning. Sandbach clinched the title by a single point after beating Woodford. Aston are also promoted after
a 10 wicket win over Knutsford. Disley just miss out by two points despite beating Stalybridge.
So we will welcome (back) Sandbach and Aston (for the first time) to the Meller Braggins Cheshire Cricket League in 2009.
